Ted Baker has confirmed that its new chairman John Barton will join the business on 1 July 2020.

The appointment of the former Next chair was confirmed in April and he replaces David Bernstein who left the fashion and lifestyle brand in December along with its former CEO Lindsay Page after a tumultuous year for the business.

Acting chair Sharon Baylay will continue to cover the role until Barton officially joins and has confirmed that she will not seek re-election to the Board at the Annual General Meeting on 21 July 2020.

Helena Feltham, Senior Independent Director, said: "We are delighted to be welcoming John to the Board and look forward to benefitting from his significant experience leading consumer facing businesses.

"On behalf of the Board I would like to thank Sharon for her strong leadership and commitment during her time at Ted Baker, in particular as Acting Chair. Over recent months Sharon has guided the Board through a significant period of change, including with the appointment of a new Chief Executive in Rachel Osborne and the successful equity raise to support the transformation strategy."

Barton, who is also the current chairman of easyJet said: "I am very pleased to be joining Ted Baker as Chairman and would like to echo the Board's thanks to Sharon for the crucial role she has played as Acting Chair. We wish her all the very best for the future."

Osborne was recently confirmed as the permanent CEO having joined Ted Baker as CFO last autumn from Debenhams. She stepped into the role of acting CEO when Page and Bernstein left the business in December.

The business recently announced that it had raised £105m through a share issue which it will use to fund a transformation plan to get the business back on track and support it through the COVID-19 crisis.

Ted Baker has been rebuilding its board following a string of departures, including its founder and CEO Ray Kelvin last Spring. It has recently appointed a new CFO, David Wolffe, and announced that former Topshop creative chief Anthony Cuthbertson would be joining as global creative director.
