Ted Baker has appointed HR expert Helena Feltham as an Independent Non-Executive Director with effect from 1 May. Her appointment comes as the company vowed to shake up its HR practices following the accusations of "forced hugging" by former CEO Ray Kelvin who has since left the business.

Feltham has over 30 years' experience in retail and human resource leadership. She was formerly People Director at B&Q and, prior to that, held the role of human resources director at Jack Wills, Marks & Spencer, Topshop and Woolworths South Africa.

She has also spent a number of years of her career in executive search with Odgers Berndtson, covering senior appointments across both public and private sectors and is a serving director and trustee of The Retail Trust, as well as as a Justice of the Peace and independent adviser to the National Assembly of Wales.

David Bernstein Executive Chairman at Ted Baker said of her arrival: "We are delighted that Helena is joining us at this important time for the business. Working with the Board, Helena's support and insight on implementing the recommendations from the independent HR policies and procedures review will be of great value."

Feltham added: "Ted Baker has great people who have an obvious passion for what they do. I am really looking forward to working with the Board and the wider team."

Ted Baker recently announced the conclusion of an investigation into harassment allegations levelled Kelvin, the founder of the business, which identified “several areas for improvement” in its HR practices.

Following the allegations Kelvin took a leave of absence at the end of last year and stood down in the new year. He was replaced by chief operating officer Lindsay Page.
