T.M. Lewin makes grand return to high street, declaring the 'best is yet to come'

Shirtmaker and menswear retailer T.M. Lewin has returned to the high street after a five-year hiatus. This comes after 'challenging' years, with the retailer slipping into administration not once but twice.

The brand took to social media, writing: "We cannot wait to welcome you to our first retail store after a challenging 5 years. We believe the saying goes ‘nothing that comes easy is worth having’ so here’s to that. Thank you for your patience, loyalty and kindness throughout, and roll the next chapter. The best is yet to come…"

This comes after T.M. Lewis fell into aministration twice over the past five years.

Founded in 1898 T.M. Lewin was a stalwart of the City of London, selling shirts to bankers and other office workers in the financial district.

The business had struggled as the high street struggled, and its first administration came at the same time as thousands of jobs were being cut during lockdowns. In 2020 the business was bought by SCP Private Equity which added Co-operative Group chairman Allan Leighton to its team. The new owners soon had to make big decisions, just months after the purchase 600 staff were made redundant and the business’s 66 shops across the UK were closed.

Just two years later, in 2022, the retailer was rescued from disappearance for the second time by Petra Group ater reported interest from other buyers, including Marks & Spencer and Frasers Group. However, only 22 of its 50 workers at TM Lewin transfered over to the new owners.

Finally, after three years of speculation, the company is returning to Britain's high street.
