Sustainable genderless kidswear brand launches to combat fast fashion

Manchester based sustainable kidswear brand, Emiko Studios, has released its first genderless collection, producing items based on custom orders with natural fibres.

The company was founded by Coral Murphy in 2020 after she was offered a job as a garment technologist in Bangladesh and witnessed harsh reality of the working conditions.

Striving for genderless, seasonless and sustainable kidswear clothing, the brand is creating a whole range of custom children’s clothing using natural fibre fabrics from the UK, ensuring that the materials are soft, durable and pass the "Emi test" with Murphy's own daughter.

TheIndustry.fashion has curated a gallery featuring some of the collection:

Each piece has been designed with ‘gender-neutral’ front of mind, from denim jackets with personalised hand-sewn names to adjustable denim jeans with hand-splattered paint detail.

In further devotion to the environment, Emiko has clothing longevity in mind - jeans are made using extra long fabric so parents can roll them up initially, and roll them down once their little one has grown more.

Later in 2021 the business aims to launch a new collection of children’s dungarees and jeans using deadstock Levi jeans sourced from a local Manchester vintage store.

Coral Murphy told TheIndustry.fashion: “I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to provide sustainable and unique clothing to families in the UK.

“The support we’ve received has been incredible and only drives me further as a female business owner to keep pushing the boundaries. I’d love to open my own physical store in which my studio would be housed. People could see first-hand how I make clothing.”
