Superdry confirms Benedict Smith as Interim CFO

Tom Shearsmith
02 November 2020

Superdry has announced that it has appointed Benedict Smith as Interim Chief Financial Officer.

The appointment sees Smith replace Nick Gresham, who stood down from the position last month. Gresham only arrived at Superdry in August 2019, having previously worked in the same position at both Wiggle and Oak Furniture Land.

Smith joins the company with over 18 years of experience as CFO of a wide range of both quoted and privately owned businesses, most recently serving as Interim CFO at Dennis Publishing Group.

He has extensive relevant sector experience having held a number of CFO roles in the retail sector at businesses including Harrods, Hunter Boots, Game Digital and Spirit Group.

Smith is also currently a Non-Executive Director of McColl's Retail Group PLC and a member of the Remuneration and Audit Committees.

Benedict will begin his role as Interim CFO of Superdry with immediate effect.

Peter Williams, Chairman of the Board of Superdry, said: "I am delighted we have secured an Interim CFO with such extensive experience in senior finance roles in the retail sector. This is an important step in giving Superdry leadership and stability in a critical area of the business during an important time."

In September, Superdry reported deepening losses for the full year as the Coronavirus pandemic impacted the chain’s turnaround strategy.
