Shoppers are buying suncream earlier than ever this year, with Superdrug reporting a spike in suncare sales the week after the Government announced its plans to lift international travel restrictions.

Sales of Superdrug's own-brand suncream, Solait, have increased by 570% year-on-year and more than doubled against the previous month.

The high street retailer also found that shoppers are going online to pick up their holiday essentials, with online searches for Superdrug's own-brand suncream rising 17%.

Simon Comins, Superdrug’s Commercial Director, said: "At Superdrug, we’ve seen sales of suncare soar over the past few weeks, reflecting the restrictions lifting on international travel. Our own brand suncare range, Solait, in particular has seen strong sales, far above that of the previous year, as shoppers stock up on quality, affordable suncare solutions for the whole family."

In other suncream-related news, Holland & Barrett recently banned the sale of chemical suncream. The brand has removed all suncare containing ocean-damaging ingredients from its stores and website.
