Stuart Weitzman, the US footwear brand which forms part of the Tapestry group, has announced it has parted company with its new creative director Giovanni Morelli saying his behaviour at times "fell short" of expected standards.

In a short statement the group's CEO Victor Luis said: “While we greatly admire Giovanni’s creative talents, Tapestry is committed to an environment where every individual feels respected and at times his behavior fell short of these standards.

"Looking ahead, we have the utmost confidence in the talented Stuart Weitzman design team under the direction of CEO and Brand President Eraldo Poletto, who has a proven track record of developing iconic brands and successfully building global teams.”

Morelli has only just debuted his first designs for the brand and was set to introduce a new accessories collection this autumn having been officially appointed in May of last year. The Italian designer has worked for some of the industry's most prestigious fashion houses and is behind some of the most successful accessory designs of the past 15 years.

Prior to joining Stuart Weitzman he held roles with brands such as Chloé, Marc Jacobs and Loewe where he created the Paddington bag, the Stam bag and the Hammock bag, all of which were huge hits.

Stuart Weitzman, whose stablemate brands include Coach and Kate Spade, said the search for his replacement was underway.
