Stella McCartney, Stephanie Phair and Tom Joule among fashion names on Queen's Birthday Honours list

Stella McCartney, Farfetch and the BFC's Stephanie Phair and retailer Tom Joule were among high profile fashion figures to be recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Stella McCartney, who has been a trailblazer for sustainable and cruelty free fashion since she graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1995, was awarded the CBE for services to sustainability and fashion. She had previously received the OBE in 2013.

Stephanie Phair, who is the current chair of the British Fashion Council and chief customer officer at Farfetch, has received the OBE for services to fashion and technology. She had previously worked for what is now the YOOX NET-A-PORTER Group and established its off-price business The Outnet.

In a statement Phair said: “I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity at the British Fashion Council to contribute to and strengthen the fashion industry in the UK. To champion the rich creativity and entrepreneurial spirit that emerges here is a privilege. To have helped develop the digital economy and drive innovation through The Outnet and Farfetch has been incredible.

"And to be on this journey with smart, driven, interesting, kind people I have met along the way, is more than anyone could ask for."

Tom Joule

Founder of the fashion and lifestyle chain Joules, Tom Joule, has also received an OBE for services to business. He established Joules in 1989 in the fields of Great Britain when he began selling clothing on a stand at a country show in Leicestershire.  The business has since grown to a multi-channel brand delivering annual sales of almost £200m, with more than 140 stores across the UK and a total active customer base of more than 1.9m.

British designers Craig Green and Grace Wales Bonner have also been recognised with an MBE for their services to fashion in the list that was revealed today as the Queen marks her Platinum Jubilee.

Meanwhile Nicholas Coleridge, the former UK chief of Vogue publisher Conde Nast and a former chairman of the British Fashion Council, was made Knight Bachelor, following on from his CBE awarded in 2009. Coleridge is currently chairman of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Prince of Wales' Campaign for Wool. He was recognised for services to museums, to publishing and to the creative industries.
