Stella McCartney appoints ex Ralph Lauren exec as CEO to drive 'next chapter'
Stella McCartney has appointed Tom Mendenhall as its new Chief Executive Officer, ushering in a new era for the British luxury house. He takes over from Amandine Ohayon, who is stepping down after nearly two years in the role.
Mendenhall is a seasoned industry figure with a CV that spans Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford and Gucci. At Ralph Lauren, he served as brand president of Polo and Double RL, while his 18 year collaboration with Tom Ford included senior roles such as Executive Vice President and COO. He has also held the role of Worldwide Director of Merchandising at Gucci.
In 2024, he also co-launched the fashion investment vehicle Jamestown Hudson with James Scully, who will continue to oversee that business.

McCartney, who founded her namesake label in 2001 and has long championed a vision of sustainable luxury, said: "Tom’s extensive experience across every facet of the luxury sector will be invaluable as we build on our foundations and look ahead to the next chapter. He shares my vision and the values that are central to this brand."
Mendenhall added: "Stella McCartney is a brand with global influence, led by a powerful and compassionate woman. I’m honoured to join Stella and the team in shaping the company’s next stage of development."
Ohayon, who joined in 2023 after a long career in beauty and luxury bridalwear, helped navigate the company’s separation from LVMH earlier this year. She described her departure as the right moment for change, saying she would "remain a passionate supporter of Stella’s mission" while pursuing new opportunities.
The leadership change comes just months after McCartney bought back LVMH’s minority stake, ending a five-year partnership and signalling a return to full independence. With 36 directly operated stores and 11 franchises worldwide, the brand is now entering what it describes as a "new chapter" of growth - one that Mendenhall will be tasked with leading.
