Brought to a close on Sunday, the boys first ever London Collections: Men brought in press and buyers from over twenty countries. With menswear now representing 50% of the luxury apparel market, the British Fashion Council last week launched London Collections: Men in a bid to showcase Britain’s outstanding contribution to an increasingly profitable market. And their efforts certainly paid off as international industry figures flocked to the capital to see forty-eight catwalk shows held over a period of three days.
One of which included our very own Jonathan Saunders, having recently branched into menswear. The Industry member’s presentation was inundated with press and buyers from all over the world keen to get their hands on a techni-coloured spring/summer collection that had the coveted Saunders signature scribbled all over it.
As Britain stakes its claim in a market worth billions, the BFC’s initiative is set to become a regular fixture: ‘We would love to expand the London Collections’, explains the council’s CEO, Caroline Rush.
