Footwear trade show Sole Fashion is the latest to cancel its event placing of an August show, putting the event on hold to return in 2021.

The first show was held in February this year and had planned its second showcase in Coventry this summer.

The company said in a statement: “Due to the unprecedented events surrounding COVID-19, we have taken the decision not to run the August 2020 edition of Sole Fashion. This has been a tough decision, particularly after the positive reaction to the February 2020 debut edition, but we feel it’s the right one – safety is paramount.

"We are keeping a watchful eye on developments for 2021 and continue our discussions with the Ricoh Arena, exhibitors and suppliers. As soon as it is appropriate to do so, we will get this show back on the road.”

A number of trade shows around the globe have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with an uncertain future ahead for many.

The PREMIUM GROUP in Berlin cancelled its PREMIUM and SEEK trade shows for this summer season, as well the FASHIONTECH conference.

While events have gone virtual, some event have struggled to convert digitally as they are based only on physical products.

This week, the UK government announced new measures to ease the lockdown, allowing more numbers of non-essential stores to re-open, however event spaces and conference centres remain closed with no re-opening date confirmed.
