Sneaker specialist Sean Wotherspoon joins Klekt ahead of crowdfunding campaign
American sneaker designer, collector, YouTube series creator and co-founder of vintage clothing store Round Two, Sean Wotherspoon, has joined European sneaker marketplace Klekt as an investor and Chief Community Curator.
It comes ahead of Klekt launching a community crowdfunding campaign on Republic on 8 April, as the platform aims to expand beyond sneakers into a broader resale marketplace spanning streetwear, collectibles and “circular commerce”.
The campaign marks the next phase of the platform’s evolution under Responsible, the company which acquired it with the ambition of building a global marketplace centred on community, culture and the growing resale economy.
Wotherspoon said: “Klekt has always felt very rooted in the real sneaker community, and that’s what drew me in. It’s really all about storytelling, and the people and culture behind those stories. I’m excited to support the team as Chief Community Curator and help build the next chapter of Klekt.”
Mark Dowds from Responsible, added: “Klekt has always been about more than just transactions and numbers. It's about the culture and the community around sneakers.
“With Sean joining, and the community playing an even bigger role in the future of the platform, we're excited to take Klekt into its next chapter across new categories and new geographies.”
Since launching in Germany, Klekt has developed a global community of sneaker collectors, supported by its network of creators and ambassadors known as Team Klekt.
In a separate post on Instagram, Wotherspoon said:
“Sean Wotherspoon and @klekt are bringing back the feeling from the golden era of sneaker collecting.
“When every pair meant something and the character spoke louder than hype.
“Together, we’re here to grow the community and reconnect with what really matters.”
From everyday rotation pieces to rare grails, every item is authenticated by Klekt before it reaches the buyer, creating a trusted environment “where pre-loved and new coexist seamlessly”.
The global resale economy has expanded rapidly in recent years, as consumers increasingly embrace second-hand fashion, collectibles and circular commerce.
Klekt is now out to redefine resale for street culture, transforming a fragmented market into a connected, “community-driven ecosystem” designed to scale globally.
