Online retailer SilkFred has conducted a study into the habits of Brits in relation to behavioural habits when travelling abroad for holidays.

The study of 2,000 people from all corners of the UK reveals what consumers are buying, when they're buying it and how much they're willing to spend.

Key findings include:

  • Men are twice as likely as women to dress up for an Instagram photo whilst abroad.
  • 40% will buy 6-plus new items for each holiday abroad – that’s an average spending of £21–£60 a trip
  • 30% would spend more than usual on comfy shoes for adventuring and exploring during their holidays.
  • The results show that if Brits were to go on holiday twice a year from the age of 18, their holiday wardrobe costs would be £1,560 on average, by the time they are 30.

Stat from SilkFred report

With a quarter of survey respondents saying that they had been on holiday in the previous 6-12 months, SilkFred found that 1 in 10 people in Oxford spend £160-plus on holiday clothes each time they go away, the highest in the UK. Along with being the highest spenders, Oxford residents are the most likely to dress up on holiday for their social media followers.

Silkfred has posted their full findings in special report.
