Sézane's secret is out: France's season-busting online fashion brand is here
Sézane, the online-only French brand, has now brought its season-busting service to the UK. We at The Industry had thought this was our little secret (we already have jumpsuits and shirts with some ankle boots in our sights) but now The Telegraph has reported its arrival we may as well share too.
Founded by designer Morgane Sélazory (the brand is a contraction of her names), Sézane offers contemporary women's wear "made with love" that pays no heed to fashion retail's traditional seasons, or, claims the designer, no heed to trends. Though there are nods to current must-haves such as great fringed ankle boots, dungarees and saddle/messenger bags (mostly sold out), so they are paying some attention to the season's mood. But Sélazory's claim that she designs to fill gaps in women's wardrobes first and foremost, rings true.
Core styles, such as the Django pump, are made in various colourways and heel heights and the aforementioned "Claude" messenger bag comes in several colours (though at the time of writing only one, Terracotta, was available).
The beauty of the collection is that the core products are sold year-round while newness comes in the form of monthly limited edition capsule collections, which are befitting of the time of year they drop. The knits for October were cosier than those for September for instance and the palette more distinctly autumnal. This is not a brand that is about to drop heavy outwear in July and be frantically discounting it come October. (Others take note.)
Few items from the limited editions are restocked so once they are gone, they are gone (you can set up alerts for restocks as some items will naturally be returned). However some lines from previous seasons are remade, fabric permitting, and are housed in the "Last Chance" section of the site, which retails product at a 20% discount. Beyond that, there are no sales.
Not that sales should be a concern. The pricing is very fair for the high quality. Leather shoulder bags retail from Euros 190, the must-have June shirt (in various fabrics) sells for around Euros 85, and the Juliette jumpsuit sells for Euros 140. Frankly the only concern is whether you can buy what you want quick enough, especially now the secret is out!
