Selfridges opens its biggest Christmas Shop ever

04 October 2022

Selfridges has launched its biggest Christmas Shop to date, increasing its size by over 20% and taking over a new space on the fourth floor of its Oxford Street flagship department store.

The new Christmas Shop will offer a curated selection of decorations, lighting, ornaments, advent calendars, gift wrap, holiday cards and gift ideas. The location will also offer customers a personalisation service for select items.

Customers will be able to explore over 1,200 baubles (35% more than in 2021). Half of the decorations are exclusive to Selfridges and cannot be found anywhere else in the UK. 60% of the decorations available are Project Earth labelled, meaning it is more friendly to the planet than a traditional decoration.

As well as offering more planet-friendly choices than ever before, the Christmas Shop has been built with sustainability in mind, reusing decorations from previous displays across the store.

Following the opening of the Christmas Shop, Selfridges will launch its Christmas scheme across all stores and online on 27 October.

From 25 November, Santa and his elves will be making daily visits to the Christmas Shop and festive destinations throughout the London store as well as in Birmingham and Manchester.

Selfridges Christmas

Last month, John Lewis introduced a new festive initiative to help customers "manage Christmas costs as they suffer from the high cost of living". The store has removed the £30 minimum spend threshold on its website for click-and-collect orders until 19 October, allowing consumers to make smaller orders without paying the additional £2 charge for the service.

The cost of living crisis is expected to spell a challenging run-up to Christmas for retailers, with month-to-month overall UK footfall forecasted to decline in September, October and November.
