Selfridges has announced the promotion of Alannah Weston from deputy chair to chair of the department store group with immediate effect.

According to Retail Week, Alannah Weston will "oversee Selfridges Group’s continued commitment to significant investment across all of its banner businesses, its ongoing leadership in the area of sustainability and work closely with the recently announced leadership team to position the business for continued growth”.

She will succeed her father, W. Galen Weston, who will become chair emeritus of the group.

At the end of last year, the company restructured its top team as managing director Anne Pitcher took on extra responsibility becoming managing director of the Selfridges Group with oversight of its retail businesses in the UK, Netherlands and Canada.

As a result of Pitcher's promotion customer director Simon Forster was promoted to her former role of managing director of Selfridges & Co.

Paul Kelly, formerly managing director of the group, took on a new role as managing director of its property arm in the UK and Europe, Wittington Property Investments.
