Sebago launches apparel collection for the first time at Pitti

Deck shoe specialist Sebago, now under the ownership of Italy-based BasicNet, which also has brands including Kappa, K-Way and Superga in its stable, launched a new apparel line at Pitti Uomo last week.

Lorenzo Boglione, vice president of sales at BasicNet, said: “It’s the first time Sebago has an official apparel collection and we decided to do it because it’s a natural and spontaneous evolution of a global and lifestyle brand as Sebago has always been.”

Famous for its "Docksides" deck shoes, the new line is heavily nautical inspired as you’d expect. Sailing jackets and sweatshirts carry heavy branding, though there are more subtle casual pieces in the collection and even some dark 13oz selvedge jeans.

Sebago

The Sebago brand was founded in 1946 by three friends in Portland, Maine in New England, USA - Dan Wellehan, Charlie Beaudoin, and Joe Cordeau, and the new SS20 apparel collection aims to follow the founders’ commitment to superior construction and attention to detail - paying homage to its East Coast roots and all things sailing.

Key pieces include the "Diaz" hard shell duo-tone hooded jacket, which features heat-sealed seams and snaps for waterproofing, a neoprene lining and Velcro tabs on the cuffs. There’s also the "Columbus" water and windproof jacket, made from a rip-stop stretch fabric, also with heat-sealed seams. Logo sweats and Tees reference the brand’s roots in Maine.
