Searches for England shirts soar 2,470% ahead of Euro 2024 final
Demand for England football shirts has soared in the UK since the team secured a place in the Euro 2024 final.
New findings by BoohooMAN have revealed that online searches for England football shirts increased by 2,470% following England’s semi-final win on Wednesday, 10 July.
Searches for 'football shirt' have also experienced a 798% uplift in the UK and 675% worldwide, according to Google Trends.
Meanwhile, searches for the England kit skyrocketed by 1,314%, with further analysis showing online searches for vintage football shirts are also at an all-time high in the UK.
And Brits aren’t stopping at shirts. 'England flag' searches have increased by 1,642% ahead of the final against Spain.
Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson from BoohooMAN said: "Success at the Euros has caused a huge surge in interest for England’s football kit and flag as Brits embrace national pride ahead of the final against Spain. Our research shows interest surged right after the game when England beat the Netherlands.
"Footy shirts are becoming more popular for everyday wear, with particular interest in vintage shirts hitting an all-time high."
It comes after many British retailers set out to capitalise on Euro 2024, with Sports Direct launching a campaign to coincide with the start of the Euros 2024 tournament and Marks & Spencer's introducing a limited-edition collection with England.
Pubs and supermarkets in the UK are also preparing for what is promising to be one of their biggest weekends of the year as football fans celebrate the Euro 2024 final on Sunday.
While some supermarkets are shortening their opening hours – Tesco and Sainsbury’s are closing their convenience stores in England early on Sunday evening to allow employees to watch the game and Lidl is opening an hour later on Monday to let theirs recover – they are still expecting bumper sales.
