Schuh launches festive campaign inspired by ‘A Christmas Carol’
Footwear retailer Schuh has today launched its new Christmas campaign under the title of ‘Past, Present(s), Future’, which takes inspiration from Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’.
A 30-second video is now available to view across all of Schuh’s social channels and in all of its stores, while it will also be premiering on broadcast streaming platforms including ITVX, Channel 4 Streaming and Sky VOD, alongside premium subscription services Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, from 10 November.
Working with creative agency ZAK and directed by London-based director and ‘creative thinker’ Henry Dean, the ad follows a character called Cazzie, who has lost her love for Christmas.
Guided by a stylish spirit called Marley, and with a reflective voiceover, Cazzie embarks on a journey of rediscovery as the ad captures her near past - the excitement of receiving gifts as a teenager - and her near future, highlighting the joy of perfecting gift giving for her own children.
Through a lens of nostalgia and transformation, Cazzie reconnects with the magic of the present while trying on fresh pairs of shoes, celebrating with friends and enjoying Christmas with her family. The ad closes on scenes of laughter and gift giving.
Neil Partington, Chief Retail Officer at Schuh, said: “The ‘Past, Present(s), Future’ campaign is ultimately a celebration of gifting. Who doesn’t want to nail the perfect footwear gift? The campaign adopts the ethos of our ‘Same, But Different’ creative platform, championing the message that there is no one way to be this Christmas.
“At Schuh, daring to be different doesn’t stop for the festive season. We’re proud to create a space that is free of judgement. When it comes to Christmas gifting, there’s no such thing as one size fits all – and we hope Cazzie’s story resonates both with our younger shoppers and those buying for them this Christmas.”
To ‘amplify reach’, the campaign will also run across YouTube, YouTube Shorts, VEVO, Reddit and Twitch.
In addition, Schuh is stepping into new territory with strategic podcast sponsorships, connecting with Gen Z and family audiences through some of the UK’s most popular shows, including ‘Saving Grace’, ‘The Girls Bathroom’ and ‘Parenting Hell’.
