This year’s LVMH Prize was awarded to London-based designer Steven Stokey-Daley, the Creative Director of sustainably conscious menswear brand, S.S. Daley, in a ceremony at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris on 2 June 2022.

The award was presented by actress Cate Blanchett, and 25 year-old Daley, who has previously been a menswear design intern at both Tom Ford and Alexander McQueen, will receive a €300,000 (£256,000) cash prize and will be mentored for one year by a team of LVMH experts.

This year’s jury for the awards included designers Stella McCartney, Kim Jones and Nigo, and Executive Vice President of Louis Vuitton, Delphine Arnault.

Arnault said: “I am very happy that Steven Stokey-Daley has won the LVMH 2022 Prize for his brand S.S. Daley. He appropriates the codes of tailoring by playing with the clichés of upper-class English culture.”

The jury also awarded the Karl Lagerfeld Prize to American designer Eli Russell Linnetz, 31, founder of womenswear, menswear and genderless brand ERL, and to Idris Balogun, 29, another American designer and founder of menswear brand Winnie New York. Both will receive €150,000 (£128,000) and will enjoy a one-year mentorship by the LVMH Group. Olympic ski champion Eileen Gu presented the Karl Lagerfeld Prize to each of them during the event.

Arnault added: “This year, the jury has decided to award the Karl Lagerfeld Prize to the designer Eli Russell Linnetz for his brand ERL, who draws from the culture of Venice Beach and his native California to create joyful, cool and sensual clothes, and to Idris Balogun for Winnie New York, who revamps the codes of a colourful elegance, inspired by the staples of menswear. I would like to congratulate all the finalists and I applaud their outstanding talent and creativity.”

Three young fashion school graduates were also distinguished. They were Filippo Bendanti from Università Iuav di Venezia (Venice), Miriam Griffiths from Central Saint Martins in London, and Valeria Pasco from Les Ateliers Alix in Paris. Each will receive €10,000 (£8,500) and join the studios of three Houses of the LVMH Group for one year, respectively Dior Femme, Louis Vuitton Femme and Dior Homme.
