Russell & Bromley shuts 11 stores with more closures imminent

22 April 2026

Footwear brand Russell & Bromley has closed 11 stores across the UK, with further closures expected over the coming weeks.

This first wave of store closures forms part of a pre-pack insolvency rescue deal completed in January this year, when retailer NEXT acquired Russell & Bromley.

10 stores have already closed, with an 11th store, its Covent Garden location, closing its doors today, 22 April.

Exact dates for the next wave of store closures remain uncertain, according to administrators at Interpath.

Russell & Bromley previously operated 36 stores across the UK, with the NEXT deal reportedly putting 33 standalone stores and nine concessions at risk of closure.

Only three prime stores in Chelsea, Mayfair and Bluewater were included in the deal.

According to a report from administrators at Interpath, Russell & Bromley fell to an EBITDA loss of £12.1 million in the 11 months to November 2025, before entering administration.

The group, whose roots trace back to 1880 in Sussex, had endured a sustained period of losses driven by falling sales, rising operational costs and a relatively high fixed cost base, compounded by difficult UK retail conditions marked by inflationary pressures and weakened consumer demand.
