Retail Recap: The important openings and partnerships in November 2022

November is typically a busy month for the retail sector, with both Black Friday and the approaching festive season seeing a spike in footfall, new stores and discounts.

Footfall on Black Friday was 9.3% higher than in 2021 across all UK retail destinations, with footfall in shopping centres up by 16.8%, high streets by 11.3% and retail parks by 7.1%.

Cyber Monday witnessed a 5% rise in the volume of payments made, according to Barclaycard Payments, which processes £1 in every £3 spent in the UK. Black Friday weekend also saw a 60% increase in global returns against 2021, according to SaaS platform ZigZag Global.

H&M reveals store revamp at Merry Hill Shopping Centre

H&M reopened its store at Merry Hill Shopping Centre following a redesign of its interior. The brand's expansion to a 26,000 sq ft unit allows the brand to deliver an "enhanced retail experience".

Size? opens debut store design concept at Liverpool ONE

Size? opened a new store at Liverpool ONE, debuting its new store design concept. Bolstering the destination’s premium retail line up on Peter’s Lane, the new 2,734 sq ft store is the third JD Group retailer to open at Liverpool ONE, joining JD Sports and Tessuti.

In Pictures: H&M's revamped Regent Street store with Beauty Bar and H&M Rental

H&M’s flagship store at 324 Regent Street reopened with a revamped look, complete with the brand's new Beauty Bar concept in partnership with Dashl and the launch of H&M Rental in the UK.

Luxury boutique CRICKET to open at Liverpool ONE

CRICKET announced the opening of a new 21,000 sq ft flagship store at Liverpool ONE. Spanning three floors, the space will introduce a new store design to be "more modern, luxurious and immersive".

Ted Baker among four retail openings in Merry Hill

Sovereign Centros announced that Ted Baker, Faayds and Claire's Accessories are among the new retailers opening units at Merry Hill, one of the top ten retail and leisure destinations in the UK.

KOI footwear opens first brick-and-mortar store at Trafford Centre

Vegan and unisex footwear brand KOI opened the doors of its first in-person shopping experience at Manchester’s Trafford Centre. The brand has returned to its roots with the launch of its first store in the city, which is where the business was founded.

JD Sports returns to Hammersmith after a decade away

JD Sports returned to Hammersmith in West London after a 10-year absence with a new 4,000 sq ft store on King Street. Formerly a New Look store, the unit 33-35 is in the Livat Hammersmith building.

Four new flagships open at Seven Dials' Neal Street

Shaftesbury announced the opening of four new flagship stores on Neal Street, Seven Dials. The new stores include Absence of Colour, Mr Jones Watches, Rockett St George and My Runway Group.

JOTT opens first UK store and plans more

JOTT opened its first UK store in London's Marylebone neighbourhood and said it is planning to open more as London is a "priority" target. The first store is located at 103 Marylebone High Street, with more to come in other "prime UK locations".

Mango opens first store in Newcastle at Eldon Square shopping centre

Mango continued its UK retail expansion with the opening of a 4,305 sq ft store at the Eldon Square shopping centre in Newcastle. It adds to the other Mango store openings this year at the Glasgow Fort and Bluewater shopping centres, as well as last month’s store opening at Battersea Power Station in London.

Rains more than doubles retail presence at Coal Drops Yard

Danish outerwear brand Rains upsized from its previous 366 sq ft store at Coal Drops Yard in London’s Kings Cross, which it opened when the retail scheme launched in October 2018, to a new 850 sq ft space a few doors down.

Uniqlo set to open Covent Garden store in 2023

Uniqlo announced the opening a new 15,600 sq ft location in London's Covent Garden, located on Long Acre and Floral Street. Expected to open in Spring 2023, the store will offer consumers a selection of its LifeWear clothing, which includes menswear, womenswear and kidswear.

David M Robinson opens concept showroom in Canary Wharf

Official Rolex retailer David M Robinson (DMR) announced the opening of a new showroom in London’s financial hub. Combining its in-house expertise with a "best of client experience", the new space is located near to its previous showroom in Jubilee Place mall.

Sprezzatura opens flagship store in London’s Connaught Village

Women’s luxury footwear brand Sprezzatura opened a 345 sq ft flagship store at 10 Porchester Place in London’s Connaught Village. It’s Sprezzatura’s first permanent retail venture, having previously only been sold direct-to-consumers through pop-up boutique markets.

Ksubi opened the doors to its first-ever standalone store in the UK. Working in partnership with design consultancy Brinkworth, the new store celebrates the brand's distinctive spirit through juxtaposing distressed and luxurious materials.

Gap opens fifth UK shop-in-shop with NEXT at Glasgow’s Braehead Shopping Centre

Gap opened a new 1,300 sq ft shop-in-shop with NEXT on the upper level of the Braehead mall. The new store is the fifth Gap shop-in-shop to open in the UK since the brand’s recent return to the British high street.

Hobbs to open new store at the Metrocentre in Gateshead

British womenswear brand Hobbs opened a new store at the Metrocentre in Gateshead. Taking over the former Suit Direct unit in the Upper Platinum Mall, the new store is located between Kuoni and Paperchase.

Reformation opens fourth London store at Battersea Power Station

Reformation secured a unit at London’s Battersea Power Station. The new store has been decorated in vintage furniture and eco-friendly fabrics that were chosen to highlight the "beautiful architecture of the space".

Boux Avenue announces two store openings coming this November

Boux Avenue opened two new stores in Derby and Reading. Both stores are Boux Avenue’s first in the area, which the brand said was a sign of its commitment to expand across the UK.

Mango, Suit Direct and Rituals to open at Bristol’s Cribbs Mall

Mango, Suit Direct and Rituals opened new stores at the Cribbs Mall shopping centre, Bristol’s out-of-town shopping and leisure destination in Cribbs Causeway. Alongside the new arrivals, family-owned jewellers F.Hinds signed a six-year lease renewal for its 1,449 sq ft unit.

Wild Swans signs lease for Islington Square destination

Fashion and lifestyle retailer Wild Swans signed a lease at Islington Square’s retail space, bringing the scheme to 92% let. This is the second of the brand’s brick-and-mortar stores, alongside a space in Chiswick, West London.

Edinburgh's Jane Davidson to close after 53 years in business

Jane Davidson, the Edinburgh-based women’s fashion boutique, announced it will cease trading next month, closing its doors after 53 years in business. Jane Hall's namesake brand has been run by her daughter, Sarah Murray, since 1997. The company has alluded to closing the store simply for a change in lifestyle.

Kurt Geiger launched on premium non-full price fashion marketplace Secret Sales, to drive sales from markdown and promotional inventory, alongside its new ‘made for outlet’ range.

FatFace partners with True Fit to enhance digital experience and reduce fit-related returns

FatFace partnered with True Fit to deliver size and fit guidance to shoppers, improve customer satisfaction and help reduce fit-related returns. True Fit has been added to the FatFace website as part of the brand's “ambitious digital transformation journey”.

Castore announced a new multi-year partnership with professional cycling team INEOS Grenadiers. The agreement will see Castore support the team’s wide range of off-bike performance needs as the official premium sportswear partner for cyclists including the likes of Geraint Thomas, Tom Pidcock, Egan Bernal and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot.

Nudea partners with Urb-it for sustainable deliveries

Underwear brand Nudea partnered with sustainable logistics company Urb-it to provide sustainable deliveries for UK-based customers. The deliveries are carried out by Urb-it’s 100% e-cargo bike fleet of couriers, which reduces noise and air pollution.
