Reiss announces multiple initiatives to support NHS

British high street brand Reiss has announced a set of initiatives to support the NHS frontline and do their part in helping with the fight against COVID-19.

As the impact of coronavirus takes hold, the critical shortage of protective personal equipment for the NHS has been more clear than ever.

In response to this, Reiss has taken steps to utilise their supply chain, stores and partners to help support the production and distribution of PPE by purchasing masks and fabric to create much-needed scrubs.

The first of the initiatives announced by the brand includes donating 10,000 masks across the Guys & St Thomas’s NHS foundation Trust and Barts Health NHS Trust. Reiss is working directly with factories to purchase the masks, whilst also supporting their supply chain during such uncertain times.

Secondly, Reiss is supporting Emma Willis, MBE's latest charity initiative, Style for Surgeons, with a fabric donation to produce over 900 scrubs. The scrubs will be sewn in Emma’s factory in Gloucestershire and delivered to a network of hospitals across the UK.

Emma Willis, Founder of Style for Surgeons, said: Samantha, our Head Cutters mother, is the lead vascular scientist at Gloucester Royal Hospital and advised us of the critical shortage of scrubs at the end of March.

"In response to this, we retrained our furloughed production team and in two days they were making beautiful Swiss cotton scrubs using our existing stocks so we could produce as fast as possible.

"We are all so very glad to be able to support our emergency NHS staff risking their lives for us all throughout this crisis.

In addition, Reiss has also partnered with the Emergency Designer Network (EDN), a volunteer-led enterprise coordinating the local production of hospital scrubs in London.

The initiative, founded by London-based designers Holly Fulton, Bethany Williams and Phoebe English, comprises of small-scale UK manufacturers, designers and brands coming together as a collective to produce the critically required scrubs the NHS needs.

Reiss has donated 4000m of NHS-approved fabric, enough to provide the EDN to assemble over 1,900 sets of scrubs.

Lastly, the brand will be lighting up windows in a selection of Reiss stores across the UK with a special message of thanks to NHS staff, showing their gratitude and appreciation for the incredible work they are doing.
