Real Madrid and Germany football star Antonio Rüdiger has been confirmed as American sportswear brand Under Armour’s latest signing, having previously been with Nike since the beginning of his career.

Rüdiger will now be wearing the Under Armour Clone Magnetico Pro 2 boot, and the brand is “committed to helping him be the best he can be on the football field week in, week out”.

He follows a roster of high profile sports stars to have partnered with Under Armour, including British heavyweight boxer, and former world champion, Anthony Joshua, Liverpool and England football ace Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Saracens and England professional rugby union powerhouse Maro Itoje.

To celebrate, Under Armour has released a Rüdiger ‘Unboxed' video, where he talks in-depth about the moments that shaped his journey and made him into a tough athlete and inspirational leader.

Kara Trent, SVP and Managing Director of EMEA at Under Armour, said: “At Under Armour we strive to work with athletes that exemplify toughness, grit and sacrifice to reach the summit of their sports.

“Toni (Antonio) epitomises our values and we are delighted to add him to our roster, as we look to engage with young team sports athletes in football. He has an incredible story, and his experiences explain why he is so tenacious every time he takes to the pitch and gives everything to his team and its success.”

Rüdiger, who came on as substitute for Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter final first leg versus his old club Chelsea on Wednesday evening and made a crucial late block to preserve Madrid’s 2-0 lead, commented: “The most important thing for me is values. It’s these values that made it very easy for me to choose Under Armour as they understand not only what players endure during the game, but how competitors are born and bred behind the scenes.”

On facing his old club Chelsea in the Champions League, Rüdiger added: “I had a feeling - and I even told my teammates - that we were going get Chelsea. For me it is a special game against my old club.”

Rüdiger made the announcement that he would be joining Under Armour in a video on Instagram in February, saying that he “shares common values” with the brand both on and off the pitch, but Under Armour waited until this week to confirm the news and release the ‘Unboxed’ video and new imagery of Rüdiger sporting Under Armour’s apparel.
