Rail and postal strikes called off after the Queen’s death
The planned strikes by Britain’s rail and postal workers have been cancelled as a result of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
A planned strike by Royal Mail workers has been called off following the Queen's death. Members of the Communication Workers Union were today due to continue its 48-hour strike in a dispute over pay and conditions.
In a statement, the Communication Workers Union said: "Following the very sad news of the passing of the Queen and out of respect for her service to the country and her family, the union has decided to call off planned strike action."
The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has suspended its strike action planned for 15 September and 17 September to pay tribute to the longest-reigning sovereign.
Mick Lynch, General Secretary at RMT, said: "RMT joins the whole nation in paying its respects to Queen Elizabeth. The planned railway strike action on 15 and 17 September is suspended. We express our deepest condolences to her family, friends and the country."
The Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) has also called off planned industrial action this month, and said it would be “respecting the period of public mourning”.
