Radley in reset mode as it targets growth after challenging 2024
Radley, the British handbag and accessories brand, has set out its plan to transform itself into "a modern British icon of accessible luxury" as it reveals its financial results for 2024.
The business posted positive growth in the areas of DTC, digital and licensing sales but took a hit on wholesale in part due to technology challenges and its partners shifting to drop-ship or marketplace models.

Like-for-like DTC sales were up 3.8% during the year, with the UK and the US performing particularly well (up 3.7% and 4.7% respectively). Digital sales were up 10.3%, with stores sales up a more modest 0.4%.
Licensing, which covers areas such as watches, jewellery, eyewear, and beauty (new for 2024) was up 8% generating £1.4 million in revenue.
Wholesale, however, dropped by 30%, which was attributed to IT systems disruption and the evolving operating models of its retail partners.
This dragged down overall sales at the business, which reported a 7% decrease in total sales - from £77.3 million to £72 million - and a decline in underlying EBITDA from £4.3 million to £2.7 million over the year.
However, Radley CEO Nick Vance said its transformation plan was "progressing well" and that the business was targeting growth as it resets its proposition with a more contemporary handwriting, under its first-ever Design Director, Fernando Soriano Iglesias, who joined from Parfois in January, bringing experience from brands including Loewe, Carolina Herrera and Calvin Klein.
"Like so many accessories brands, in 2024 we experienced a challenging global market. However, good progress has been made – particularly on our digital business. We are pleased that our transformation plan is progressing well: new leadership and talent is being put in place, and technology updates are supporting business efficiencies. With the arrival of Fernando, our future product development is exciting, showcasing superb materiality and details at our impressive price points, and Sara is making good progress in bringing new partners to Radley. These developments are expected to support future growth," Vance told TheIndustry.fashion.

Soriano Iglesias is just one of the key appointments that have been made to support the reset of the business. Sara Wallace (formerly of Ivy Oak, AllSaints and Karen Millen) joined in September 2024 as Commercial Director to drive growth across the brand’s partnership channels, with a key focus on international expansion. Since joining, Wallace has launched Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack and has signed up Anthropologie, Bloomingdales and Dillards for launch in AW25. Growth in the US will remain a priority and now focuses on the brand’s digital business and expansion of partnership channels. Meanwhile, the new positions of Trading Director and Operations Director were filled internally.
Radley has also invested in technology to the tune of £7 million to significantly upgrade its core business systems. This autumn, its global websites are due to be replatformed to support future growth.
Having begun the evolution of its product proposition in AW24, the first collection fully developed by Soriano Iglesias will be dropping in AW25. This new vision, including an elevation of handbags and new hardware and leather treatments, had already been met with a positive response with buyers. A further expansion of its accessories range and brand extensions, such as beauty, are all key to future growth.
"Our mission is underpinned by a clear ambition: to establish Radley as a modern British icon of accessible luxury, while cultivating a workplace that attracts and retains the industry's best talent. With a sharp focus on sustainable growth, we are expanding our presence in both the UK and US markets through direct-to-consumer channels and a combination of new and established strategic partnerships. While we continue to navigate a challenging and uncertain economic landscape, we remain firmly committed to our mission and strategic priorities," Vance added.
