Proenza Schouler’s founding fathers exit high fashion brand

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandes, the duo who founded Proenza Schouler back in the year 2002, have officially announced they're stepping down from the New York-based brand. It's rumoured the pair are headed to Loewe to take over from Jonathan Anderson who may be headed for stardom at Dior.

The pair, who are working alongside the high fashion brand's CEO Shira Suveyke Snyder to find a suitable replacement to take the helm, are set to exit on 31 January.

Proenza Schouler is a US-based womenswear and accessories brand renowned for its avante-garde collaborations with MAC, Birkenstock, Vans and more. In 2007, the Valentino Fashion Group bought a 45% stake in the brand and Castanea Partners acquired a minority interest. In 2018, Nudrick Capital Management led the designers’ buyback of their company, reclaiming full ownership of the label.

Though the Founders' move was spreading like wildfire amongst the fashion community this week, the duo officially disclosed the development today to WWD. All parties assured the brand would “continue operations without interruption,” though it is not on the Official New York Fashion Week Schedule this February.

“The time feels right to make the personal decision to step down from our day-to-day leadership role at the company and hand over the creative reins to someone new,” Hernandez said in a statement. “We have always valued risk-taking and a sense of adventure and feel ready to open ourselves up for whatever comes next.”

“While change is never easy, this decision — one we’ve carefully considered — feels like the right step at the right time, at this stage in our lives,” McCollough added.

Though the designers didn't divulge their plans for the future, it is speculated that they're heading to LVMH-owned Spanish house Loewe to take over from Jonathan Anderson. This points to Anderson leaving to take the top spot at French fashion house Dior.
