Primark to increase pay for all UK retail staff

As of 1 April, Primark is increasing its hourly pay for all retail employees to £13 across England, Scotland and Wales, while workers in London will receive £13.71 per hour.

In a move that will benefit over 27,000 workers, it means that, on average, over the last three years, Primark’s retail staff have seen their hourly rate increase by over 15%.

Kari Rodgers, UK Retail Director at Primark, said: “As retail becomes a more demanding environment, our colleagues play an increasingly important role to support our customers and the local communities we’re part of up and down the country.

“By investing in increasing colleague pay, we hope this goes some way towards recognising their hard work, commitment and the value they bring every day.”

In addition to the new changes to hourly rates, colleagues will also continue to benefit from a 15% year-round discount alongside a range of other benefits. These include Primark’s family benefits for all retail and depot workers, such as improved maternity, paternity, adoption and surrogacy payments.

Last week, Primark’s parent company, Associated British Foods (ABF), confirmed Eoin Tonge as permanent CEO. Tonge has been Primark’s interim CEO since 31 March 2025, following the departure of former Chief Executive Paul Marchant.

The company also announced the appointment of former H&M Group Global Director of Sales Filip Ekvall to the newly created post of Chief Commercial Officer at Primark. Ekvall will report to Tonge, effective 1 September 2026.
