Value fashion giant Primark has announced it will redevelop its retail location at The Mall in Luton, extending it by almost 40% by acquiring a neighbouring vacant store space.

The refurbishment, which has already started, will be completed by Winter 2021, and will offer 35,500 sq ft of retail space. It will see the entire space updated to reflect Primark’s latest design and shop fit.

The building works will be done in phases to allow the store to remain open throughout.

Philippa Nibbs, Primark Director of Sales for the South and East England, said: “We are excited to be refurbishing and extending our store at The Mall to bring our customers a better shopping experience. The addition of 9,800 sq ft means we can offer even more of our amazing fashion at amazing prices to the people of Luton and the surrounding areas.”

Primark is continuing its expansion globally, recently announcing it is to open eight more stores across Italy by the end of 2022, creating 2,000 new jobs.

With no e-commerce facility, Primark is dependent on opening physical retail stores for its international expansion and despite the pandemic managed to open six new stores in France, Spain, the US and Italy in the 27 weeks to the end of February 2021.

Last week, Primark announced it will be donating £150,000 to LGBTQ+ charity ILGA World, which will be used in their work to advance equality worldwide.
