Primark strengthens leadership team with new CFO appointment

Primark has appointed Lucy Slinger, previously Deputy CFO of IKEA franchisee Ingka Group, as its new Chief Financial Officer.

It follows the appointment of Filip Ekvall as Chief Commercial Officer, announced in March, with Slinger further strengthening Primark CEO Eoin Tonge’s leadership team.

Prior to her role at Ingka Group, Slinger spent more than two decades at Shell in a range of senior finance leadership roles, including Financial Reporting, Corporate Finance, Group Planning & Appraisal and as CFO of the Global Aviation business.

As CFO of Primark, Slinger will play a critical role in enabling the retailer’s long-term growth strategy as the business continues to expand internationally and prepares to become a standalone entity from Associated British Foods (ABF), which was announced in April.

Eoin Tonge, Chief Executive of Primark, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Lucy to Primark at such an important moment for the business. She brings deep financial expertise from large global organisations, alongside an impressive track record in disciplined investment and operational performance.

“As we accelerate our growth strategy and prepare for a standalone future, her leadership will be invaluable. I look forward to working closely with her as we shape the next phase of Primark’s growth.”

Slinger commented: “I am excited to be joining Primark at such a pivotal point in its journey. Primark is a unique business with a strong growth ambition and distinctive customer proposition, built on making great fashion accessible while continuing to drive quality and sustainability.

“I look forward to working with Eoin and colleagues across the business as Primark continues to grow internationally and invest for the future.”

Primark expects to be separate from ABF by the end of 2027. Bosses said the break-up will result in around £75 million of one-off separation and transaction costs. Wittington Investments, the vehicle of Associated British Foods’ founding Weston family, is to keep majority stakes in both businesses.
