Primark sales soar as new Click & Collect service announced

20 June 2022

Associated British Foods, owner of Primark, has announced its plans to introduce a Click & Collect service across stores.

Implemented by the end of 2022, the new trial Click & Collect service will begin with children's products and first take place at 25 northwest Primark stores in the UK.

The service will grow to offer customers 2,000 options across clothing, accessories and lifestyle products, catering for a "broad range" of family needs from furnishing a nursery to clothing children of all ages. Around 40% of these options will be exclusive to Click & Collect.

Click & Collect orders will be processed and dispatched to store from a dedicated UK distribution centre.

In a statement, AB Foods said: “Our average-size stores are only able to stock a limited range and for these customers the number of options available to them will broadly double, increasing even more for customers of our small stores. This trial will enable us to provide more fashion, licence and lifestyle products to more customers and more often.”

The announcement comes at the same time as Associated British Foods' trading update. For the third quarter ending 28 May 2022, the group shared the following results:

  • Group revenue increased by 32% to £4 billion.
  • Retail revenue up 81% to £1.7 billion.
  • Primark UK sales increased by 61%.
  • Traffic on Primark's new website increased by 60%.
  • 15% of website visitors are using Primark's new stock checker facility.

AB Foods credited the rise in Primark's sales to destination city centre stores seeing a return in tourism and more office working. Along with "well received" SS22 womenswear, luggage and holiday and licensed product collections including Lilo & Stitch and Stranger Things.
