Primark prepares new UK website and considers click-and-collect service

Primark is to launch a new website for the UK market by the end of March 2022, providing customers with near real-time information on product availability across stores. The website could also feature a click-and-collect option in the future.

Shoppers will be able to see which items are available in-store and check approximate stock levels in their local outlets. The new features will also roll out across Primark's 13 other markets by the autumn.

John Bason, Finance Director at Primark's owner, Associated British Foods, told Reuters that the development of digital channel will generate more sales and profits for the retailer, although home delivery will most likely not be part of the retailer's digital future as it does not reconcile with Primark's price proposition. Bason added, however, that a click-and-collect option could be introduced later on.

In the future Primark is looking to expand its physical store portfolio in Europe and the US, with new shops planned in France, Italy, the Iberian Peninsula and to the east of the Mississippi River. In November 2021 Primark's parent company Associated British Foods announced that over the next five years the brand would grow from 402 stores to 530, with 47 new ones planned in the US.
