Primark pledges £250,000 to LGBTQIA+ causes across Europe
Primark has pledged to donate £250,000 to LGBTQIA+ charities and Pride events across Europe and the US, as part of the launch of its new Pride collection this week.
This marks the ninth year the retailer has supported Pride initiatives, and to date Primark has donated £1.5 million to LGBTQIA+ charities and community organisations worldwide.
This year’s Pride collection spans womenswear, menswear, and accessories and celebrates "self-expression in all its forms".
To mark its launch, the retailer will donate £75,000 to The Proud Trust, an LGBTQIA+ youth charity based in Manchester. With this donation, Primark is supporting the Trust’s work to fund important resources like an online chat function, youth groups and support services.
The retailer also continues its commitment to inclusion through its colleague networks, educational activations, and ongoing support for local Pride events across its markets.
Charlie Magadah-Williams, Head of Inclusion & Community Impact at Primark, said: "Inclusion at Primark isn’t a slogan or a tick-box exercise - it’s part of who we are.
"This is an all-year, everyday commitment in our stores, communities, at marches, and through partnerships with the charities and organisations that matter to us most. From local Pride events to year-round partnerships, we’re continuing to create spaces where everyone feels welcome, seen, and celebrated."
Liam Swanston, Director of Development and Partnerships at The Proud Trust, added: "We are incredibly proud to be working alongside Primark as a charity partner. Their commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community all year round is exactly what meaningful support for the community needs to look like.
"Young people tell us it’s important because young LGBTQ+ people need support now more than ever. With new laws and discriminatory actions being implemented across the world, having spaces to feel safe and protected is incredibly important."
It comes as SockShop this week revealed it has raised £30,000 for the LGBT Foundation since it first launched its Pride socks in 2018, with 20% from every pair sold going to the initiative.
Featuring the classic Pride rainbow across crew, knee-high and trainer sock styles, alongside designs inspired by the Progress Pride flag, the collection “champions visibility, inclusivity and solidarity”, with prices ranging from £3.99 to £5.99.
