Primark invests €100m in Spanish portfolio

Primark is investing €100 million to strengthen its store portfolio in Spain, with plans to open at least eight new stores over the next two years.

The retailer will open three new locations in the next 12 months, including its first stores in Lanzarote, Melilla and Toledo.

Over the next two years, Primark plans to open stores in Jaén and Lorca, as well as three further stores in the Comunidad of Madrid. The retailer's store in Diagonal Mar in Barcelona will also be redeveloped and extended, creating an "enhanced shopping experience" for customers.

In addition, Primark will refurbish and upgrade some of its existing stores, including updating décor and fixtures. It will also continue to roll-out LED lighting across its Spanish stores, as the retailer progresses its ambition to halve its carbon footprint across its value chain by 2030.

The openings will create 1,000 new job opportunities across Spain, bringing the total workforce to 10,000. This includes both full-time and part-time roles for retail assistants, trainee managers and department managers.

Carlos Inacio, Director General of Primark Spain, said: “Spain is Primark’s second biggest market, with 56 stores across the country.

"Today, we are proud to announce a significant investment in our store portfolio and long-term growth of Primark Spain. This exciting expansion plan will create employment, positively impact the local communities we are opening in and bring Primark stores closer to our customers across Spain."

The announcement follows Primark's £140 million investment into new and existing UK stores.
