Primark has become the first fast fashion retailer in the world to receive a vegan certification for its clothing, shoes and bags from TÜV Rheinland Group.

The fast fashion company received the certification after thorough testing and inspections by an independent third-party. TÜV Rheinland, a global leader in independent inspection services, said that Primark's certified products are free of animal derived materials such as silk, wool, leather, pearl, feather, down, bone, exotic skins or fur.

TÜV Rheinland stated that all materials were tested using microscopic analysis, fibre analysis or other appropriate test methods to guarantee all of the retailer's products are free of textiles of animal origin. Furthermore, suppliers of process chemicals were expected provide a declaration of conformity, affirming that their products are manufactured without any materials of animal origin.

Previously, Primark’s own cosmetics range has also received a Leaping Bunny status, awarded by Cruelty Free International in 2018.
