Pre-holiday shopping surges in UK, with clothes and shoes topping the list

Almost eight in 10 (77%) of Brits say they are planning to purchase products before their holiday this year, with 45% prioritising new clothing and shoes, and 34% set to buy beauty and health products.

That’s according to new research carried out by AliExpress, the business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce platform under the Alibaba International Digital Commerce Group, which enables global consumers to buy directly from manufacturers in China and around the world.

The Consumer Insights Report, which surveyed 2,000 people across the UK, was designed to uncover the way that seasonal trends and activities influence consumer spending habits.

Over a fifth (21%) of respondents are looking to purchase new luggage and bags, 12% are seeking sports and entertainment equipment and 11% are set to splurge on toys and hobbies – showing that “consumers are focused on enhancing their holiday experience”.

The highest number of holidaymakers (20%) buy their essentials at least two weeks or up to a month before departure, while just over one in four start preparations just one week before.

Furthermore, a significant majority of shoppers surveyed actively seek discounts, with about 70% likely to wait for a sale or discount on clothing and shoes, home appliances and consumer electronics.

Bonnie Zhao, AliExpress UK General Manager, said: "Brits continue to place an emphasis on getting value for money, especially when they are already outlaying money for activities like travel, music festivals and concerts.

"We have seen an increase in consumers shopping at online marketplaces this year, and AliExpress is a preferred destination for so many as it offers customers unbeatable options at affordable and competitive prices."
