Perfect Corp reveals latest haircare trends

Beauty and fashion tech solutions provider Perfect Corp has revealed a shift in focus to low-maintenance hair routines, natural tones and hair wellness in its 2022 trend report.

The report analyses data sourced from Perfect Corp’s YouCam suite of apps, which currently has over one billion downloads globally. The YouCam suite features thousands of AR and AI-powered hair and makeup filters and products that consumers can try on virtually.

In the report, Perfect Corp revealed a new focus on hair health, as consumers embrace natural hair colour shades and caring routines to preserve the hair’s condition and minimise damage. Over the past year, brunette and silver hair colours have surged in popularity, as consumers continue to embrace low-maintenance routines.

A spike in virtual try-ons during the Spring and Autumn months saw consumers looking for hair colour inspiration ahead of the Winter and Summer seasons. Try-ons peaked in May, with 26% more try-ons compared to the yearly average.

The report showed an increase in those using AR-powered hair colour try-on tools, with consumers adopting digital-first mindsets and seeking virtual try-ons to make more confident decisions.

The growing role of AR technology is also driving sustainability in the hair colour industry, as brands drop hair colour swatches in favour of digital alternatives.
