Penfield celebrates 50th anniversary with capsule collection for SS25

Heritage US outerwear brand Penfield is today launching its SS25 collection on day one of the Pitti Uomo trade show in Florence, including a capsule line in celebration of its 50th anniversary in 2025.

Penfield, which was acquired by UK-based Brand Machine Group (BMG) in 2021, is focusing on two key archive pieces for the celebratory capsule, its ‘Kasson’ jacket and ‘Outback’ vest, described as two brand icons and standout pieces that have been reworked.

Both pieces feature Penfield’s signature 60/40 cotton/nylon Ottoman cloth and lightweight recycled synthetic fill. They also come with a limited-edition lining print inspired by Penfield’s Founder, Harvey Gross, “paying homage to his visionary spirit”.

The ‘Outback’ vest comes in a special stone wash finish and both pieces have been crafted with a PFC-free durable water-repellent coating. They are also made from recycled components “underscoring Penfield’s dedication to environmental responsibility”.

Henry Blogg, Creative Director at BMG, said: “The Outback vest has been picked as it relates to the story of the founding idea to Penfield as a business, taking an outerwear piece and combining it with the local industry of filled bedding during the 1970s.

“Along with this piece, the Kasson jacket is one of the most recognisable archive pieces of the past. It is also made from the original Penfield 60/40 fabrication which, as a brand, is the key fabric to focus on.”

Two relaxed fit T-shirts complete the capsule anniversary collection, one made from a 220GSM heavyweight cotton and the other from a 180GSM midweight cotton. They come with a 50th anniversary sleeve tag, while front and back prints feature Penfield’s original factory mill.

Commenting on being back at Pitti Uomo (running from 11-14 June), Blogg added: “We relaunched Penfield at Pitti Uomo in January 2024 with great success. This is the second season, and feels crucial in the launch of the 50th anniversary, so we can keep the momentum going into what will be the key growth season of AW25.”

The new Penfield SS25 collection unveiled today at Pitti is described as “a tribute to the rugged beauty of Massachusetts’ iconic coastline”, as Penfield was founded in Hudson, Massachusetts, in 1975.

Though not carrying 50th anniversary labelling or ticketing, the wider SS25 collection includes other Penfield archive favourites such as the ‘Gibson’, ’Rockford’, ‘Pac Jac’, ‘Sommerville’ and ‘Quincy’ jackets.

There is also new season sweats and tees, which continue the coastal theme with colour-blocked landscape prints, and the ‘Eldridge’ packable swim shorts with geometric designs.
