Patatam brings its fashion resale service to the UK

Patatam, the French online fashion resale platform which makes buying and selling used clothing online more convenient, has launched the service in the UK.

The service, which launched in France in 2013, brings brands such as Topshop, Zara and River Island to the consumer for up to 70% less than retail price.

The company takes a two-fold approach to sourcing the clothes it sells. First it scours charity stores and home clearance sites for items to sell. Each item sourced is checked to ensure it meets quality standards before being uploaded to its site.

In addition, customers can also sell their used clothing online using the "Patabag" system. To do so consumers access the website and enter the details of their unwanted clothing to receive a quote from Patatam for purchasing them. The can then request a free Patabag postage bag to mail the items to the website.

Provided the items meet Patatam’s standards, a payment is sent out there and then. Patatam then handle the resale of the items to the public as a separate transaction without any need for the original user to get involved.

Eric Gagnaire, co-founder at Patatam said: “Following our successful launch in France in 2013, we now feel it is the time to bring this concept to the UK. At Patatam, we support those shoppers who want to be fashionable, but do so more ethically, by searching for or selling their pre-loved quality clothing from their favourite high street brands.

“Our mission at Patatam is to reduce the high levels of clothing waste in landfills in the UK. This can be done through purchasing the pre-loved quality clothes from the site or using our new, revolutionary Patabag, which removes the inconvenience of selling on their quality second hand clothes. We just ask users to send their clothes to us and they then receive a payment for their clothes – and that’s it! They don’t have to do anything else.”

Gagnaire added: “We want to bring second hand clothing to the mainstream and make fashion shopping ethical for all involved.”

Items, currently for women and children, can be filtered on the Patatam site via size, brands and season and customers can also opt to browse for new items with tags only. All clothing comes with free 48 hour delivery service, £2 next day delivery service, free returns and no minimum spend on orders. Visit the Patatam UK website here.
