Pala Eyewear launches IndieGoGo campaign to fund ethical outreach project

Pala Eyewear, the ethical sunglasses brand that funds eye care for those who have no access to it in Africa, has launched an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign to enable it to expand its range and fund an outreach programme in Ethiopia.

Founded by entrepreneur John Pritchard in 2016, the brand hopes to raise £31,000 via the crowdfunding platform. The funds would help it to develop a new line of bio-acetate sunglasses and provide vital training and eye care to patients in disadvantaged areas of Ethiopia.

Backers of the campaign can choose from an array of perks in exchange for their investment including personalised pairs of sunglasses, bespoke designs, exclusive collaborations with travel brands Gandys London and Howies, a unique fashion photoshoot and even an opportunity to design their own pair for production.

Since its launch the brand has helped thousands of sight impaired people through the provision of a simple pair of spectacles, via its partner charity Vision Aid Overseas. Proceeds from the sale of every pair of Pala’s sunglasses are donated to the charity.

In addition Pala supports a Ghanaian-based NGO to support weaving communities from the remote Upper East region of the country to make their protective sunglasses cases. Woven using traditional methods utilising otherwise wasted plastic, the brand helps to provide a trade and an income, strengthening the future of these rural communities.
