Outlet centres post record-breaking Black Friday as shoppers flock to store
Landsec’s portfolio of outlet destinations has delivered its strongest-ever Black Friday week, with sales rising 8.1% year on year across its centres as consumers continue to return to in-person shopping experiences.
The owner of Gunwharf Quays, Braintree Village and Clarks Village reported a combined £16.3 million in spend across the week of 24-30 November 2025. Footfall climbed 8.6% compared to the same period last year.
The results build on the company’s record-breaking 2024, in which its outlet portfolio delivered sustained growth across major peak periods.
Braintree Village saw a standout performance, recording its highest single day of footfall since before the pandemic. Meanwhile, Clarks Village reported its highest-ever sales day.
Gunwharf Quays broke multiple records, posting its biggest sales week to date and surpassing last year’s peak. The Portsmouth outlet also recorded its highest-ever single-day revenue, alongside a 9.8% year-on-year increase in footfall.
More than 25 brands at the centre achieved record weekly sales, with a further nine reporting their strongest-ever Saturday.
Across Landsec’s outlets, shoppers gravitated toward categories aligned with early festive gifting. Health and beauty spending jumped 46% week on week. Accessories also performed strongly, up 40% week on week.
Bruce Findlay, Managing Director of Retail at Landsec, said: "This has been another exceptional period for our outlets, building on the momentum created last year and demonstrating the continued strength of the outlet model. These landmark sales figures also show the sheer power of in-person retail.
"Our outlet destinations offer great value, as well as unique food, leisure and experience-led moments that turn a simple shopping trip into a full day out - perfect for spending quality time with family and friends."
