Orla Kiely's online and retail business ceases trading

Orla Kiely, the Irish designer known for her retro prints which she applies to fashion and lifestyle products, has closed the retail and online side of her business after its parent company Kiely Rowan called in administrators.

The move has led to the closure of stores in London (in Seven Dials and the King's Road) and Kildare in Ireland although its licensing business is unaffected.

In a statement Kiely Rowan, which is owned by Kiely and her husband Dermott Rowan, said. “[...] our retail stores in London and Kildare and our online businesses have been closed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Orla Kiely’s Home and Design licensing business will not be impacted and its selection of accessories and homewares will continue to be sold through its distribution partners.

“Thank you for embracing our brand and designs throughout the years and for your ongoing support.”

David Rubin & Partners have been appointed as administrators for the business, which was founded by Kiely 23 years ago. The news comes just as an exhibition celebrating Kiely's work draws to an end at the Fashion & Textiles Museum in Bermondsey, London.

Orla Kiely: A Life in Pattern exhibition runs until Sunday 23 September and celebrates some of her most noted designs such as the stem, pear and flower prints.
