Oner Active to open first store in NY as UK sportswear brands bet on US
UK activewear brand Oner Active has signed a 10-year lease for a store on 0 Bond Street, New York, marking its first permanent brick-and-mortar location.
The activewear brand, which was "created by women, for women" currently has no permanent physical UK retail presence and operates completely online.
Oner's founder, Krissy Cela, posted on Instagram that New York is the brand's "biggest city" and therefore "felt right" for its first retail location.
The brand has also already been building a community in the city, with the launch of its Oner Walk Club, which it is planning to host in Manchester (20 July) and London (19 July) next.
"The concept for the store has been something I’ve poured a lot of love and consideration into and having incredible creatives around me to bring my vision to life makes the whole process that much more beautiful," Cela added.
She noted that the renovations on the store will begin in four weeks, and that it makes only the first of many the brand has planned.
Oner is not the first UK based activewear brand to set its sight on the US, signalling a growing interest in the market.
Gymshark opened its first US location on Long Island in 2025, followed by a flagship store on Bond Street in New York in December of the same year.
Earlier this year, Gymshark announced that it is set to open its first-ever public gym in Wynwood, Miami, in the US this summer, taking its ‘We Do Gym’ ethos to the next level.
Ben Francis, founder and CEO of Gymshark, commented on the brand opening a gym: "I’ve visited Miami many times, but even from the very first visit, I knew this would be the only place to open Gymshark’s first gym. The fitness culture, the lifting legacy, the insatiable appetite for health meant it could only ever be Wynwood. This will be a gym desired by our community, inspired by our community and, most importantly, for our community."
Founded in Birmingham in 2012, Gymshark's US expansion followed its establishing of physical retail locations in the UK, following the opening of its first flagship store on London’s Regent Street in 2022, as well as stores in Manchester, Westfield London (White City) and Westfield Stratford City.
