One Direction's Niall Horan backs Gym+Coffee as it embarks on UK expansion

One Direction's Niall Horan has backed Irish athleisure brand Gym+Coffee as it continues its expansion across the UK.

The Irish singer has taken a minority stake in the brand to help raise its profile and support its international growth.

His involvement comes on the back of news that the brand has just opened its second UK store at Manchester's Trafford Centre, following the opening of its first UK store in Westfield London last year. Further openings are planned this year.

Gym+Coffee CEO Niall Horgan said that Horan “represented Ireland with optimism, inclusivity, energy and positivity on a global stage and has become a household name across the world. He is what we aspire to become as a business. We hope that with his guidance and direction Gym+Coffee can emulate some of the success he’s had and proudly represent Ireland internationally”.

Investor and singer Horan added: “I've been a fan of Gym+Coffee for some time both as a brand and a business. I love the idea of the community they created around the brand and their goals to Make Life Richer. The first time I bought some Gym+Coffee gear I was struck by the high quality of the clothing and I was delighted to see they were an Irish brand with a serious team behind their operation. As I looked into it more, I started to understand their ambition and I’m delighted now to become part of the team that will hopefully bring the brand to a wider audience.”

Gym+Coffee was founded in 2017 by three friends, who enjoyed fitness and socialising, and early on it secured Irish rugby star Brian O'Driscoll as a backer, while lockdown home workout star and fitness and nutrition expert Joe Wicks is a fan of the brand.

The Trafford Centre "International Clubhouse" store, which opened alongside the reopening of non-essential retail on 12 April, covers 3,000 sq ft and is located on Upper Regent Street.

CEO Horgan said of the opening: "We are delighted to join The Trafford Centre and to continue to grow Gym+Coffee in the UK. It's been a challenging but exciting year for us as a brand and community and opening our second international Clubhouse is a significant milestone. We're looking forward to further building our foundations in the UK and continuing to bring our unique Make Life Richer ethos to our Manchester community."

Trafford Centre centre director Zoe Inman, said: “It’s really exciting to see Gym+Coffee’s community-led approach to its retail concepts replicated in Manchester, which is why we’re delighted to be bringing the experience to our customers across the North West.

“We expect the demand for active-wear to remain high, long after the pandemic as consumers look towards brands which boost their wellbeing. Gym+Coffee’s new clubhouse offering is testament to the importance of in-store experiences and post-pandemic community cohesion - an unrivaled experience, which online shopping really can’t compete with.

“As one of the UK’s most popular retail and leisure destinations, The Trafford Centre has continued to enhance the vibrant mix of retailers available for our customers whilst non-essential retail has been closed during lockdown. Like Gym+Coffee, other recent Centre launches - including Polestar and Rituals - really emphasises the consumer demand and importance of a tangible in-store experience.”
