On Trend AW16: The Men's Camel Coat

David Watts
24 January 2016

Whether it's "old Hollywood" or Russian oligarchs and Italian bankers, the camel coat has been keeping some of the most stylish people warm for decades. The camel coat (as made with real camel hair) actually dates back to biblical times, but its modern guise came into being in the 20s and 30s notably through the game of polo, when polo players would wear a casual camel coat in between matches.

Most camel hair is left as its natural golden tan colour and was created by gathering the coarse outer guard-hair of the camel. Today, this is more commonly blended with wool to make the fabric much softer and more plush.

For Aw16 the camel coat is making a resurgence in many forms, from the classic single breasted car-coat to more embellished Military, zippedlayered, caped, crop-duster and waterproofed styles.
