On Trend AW16: Men's Military

David Watts
26 January 2016

"Fashion as utility" comes to mind as we examine the Military styling on the AW16 menswear catwalks. Military is not new and in fact has moved from a fashion fad to being more of a classic style, which cannot be bad for business. AW16 brings us the standard classic but also more hybrid and exaggerated styling for the more adventurous male.

Casely-Hayford's elongated and exaggerated Flying jacket and ankle grazing coats saw a new twist to the Nylon tech classics. New versions of the bomber jacket, pea coats, and embroidered detailing were present as were shearling aviator jackets.

My personal favourite is the Military Great Coat and in many forms with or without brass buttons. Dries van Noten made a bold statement with over-the-top embroidery and embellishment. Alexander McQueen went for sumptuously embroidered dress uniforms to great effect.

Perhaps it's a result of the BBC's latest classic drama adaption of Tolstoy's "War and Peace"' that has us waxing lyrical about great Russian Imperial Military uniforms - perish the thought!
