Luxury Italian brand Off-White, founded by American designer Virgil Abloh in Milan in 2012, has announced its first full sunglasses and eyewear collection – set to arrive in stores in June 2021.

Described as “genderless, avant-garde and bold”, the collection features shapes and silhouettes fitting with Off-White’s graphic codes – “architectural linearity and of-the-moment aesthetics.”

The eyewear debuted today over a WeChat preview. An oversized, square silhouette called the ‘Catalina’, replete with a red Off-White ‘arrow’ logo - will be exclusive to the app and to China, while other colourways of the same design will be available globally.

Additional styles include a comprehensive range of concepts and colours, each with a singular, eclectic appeal personally overseen by Abloh, who said: “I don’t believe in gender, only design.”

Another key style is ‘Marfa’, a narrow and extended cat-eye shape, available in hot pink and off-white colourways in addition to more traditional black and tortoise.

The ‘Alps’ style provides a high impact visual statement, with oversized shield lenses and wraparound frames at the temples, while the ‘Manchester’ takes an inverted trapezoidal shape and “offers a late 1980’s vibe.” Both styles are distinguished by a play on volume for a 3D graphic effect.

To introduce Off-White’s first complete eyewear collection, Abloh tapped the photographers Tanya and Zhenya Posternak to photograph such talents as supermodel Helena Christensen, actress and model Justine Biticon and musician Lil Dre for a new campaign.

Abloh said: “I chose Helena, Justine and Lil Dre because they each represent different world views and perspectives, yet they each embody everything I believe Off-White stands for; creativity, perseverance and confidence.”

Off-White is also offering a virtual try on option for the eyewear. The new collection is launched together with an AR Filter, available on the Off-White official IG account. Users will be able to try on the key styles of the collection along with a multi-level digital landscape, “inspired by the deep connection between the brand and the community.”

The Off-White eyewear will be sold online at Off-White's ecommerce site and FarFetch, and available at independent Off-White stores, select opticians and select international retail partners.
