Nudie Jeans pioneers ship-from-store solution for greater sustainability

Swedish brand Nudie Jeans has joined forces with e-commerce platform Centra to build an advanced micro warehousing solution for retail to improve shipping efficiency and sustainability.

The ship-from-store solution has reshaped the brand's e-commerce fulfilment, allowing customers to now receive their orders quickly and sustainably.

Melker Lindstrom, Nudie Jeans Tech Lead, commented: “As a brand, we really strive to be sustainable in all areas and the existing system was just not a sustainable way to work. We wanted to present the brand in the way we wanted and develop that front-end with our partners.”

The new fulfilment ecosystem sees a customer ordering online and having it picked, packed, and delivered from local brick-and-mortar stores rather than warehouses. The item is reserved from the main warehouse if no local store can fulfil the order, ensuring the customer will receive their product quickly and sustainably.

Both companies share the value that conventional e-commerce was not sustainable.

Martin Jensen, Centra CEO, added: “E-commerce was built for online multi-brand retailers shipping from a few huge warehouses. It was not designed for brands with an existing and complex retail network of wholly owned stores, franchises, and wholesale partners. It was also logistically absurd and environmentally negligent.”

The rollout of the new system has already begun, starting with the brand's stores before connecting wholesale partners and franchises.
