NikeLab x Kim Jones: second collection drop hits stores

The second drop of the NikeLab x Kim Jones: Packable Sports Style Collection has hit stores with the aim of serving "travel in all its dimensions". The first drop of the collection focused on destinations while the second drop "considers the planes, trains and automobiles in between".

Nike Tech Fleece, known for its lightweight breathability and strong fabric memory (which curtails creases) is used throughout the collection. To enhance the garments’ packability, seams are minimized and heat-sealed when possible, rather than sewn.

Nylon has also been employed for its weightless, warm nature and true to the spirit of NikeLab and designer Jones, the collections also features some experimentation. The Tech Fleece has been garment dyed for the first time and integrated straps with snaps have been included to facilitate packing.

Jones, who is also the creative director for menswear at French luxury house Louis Vuitton, said the technical aspect of the collaboration appealed to him. "Nike Tech Fleece is something that's a really progressive fabric in terms of development, " Jones said. "It looks quite simple, but someone who is into technical details and a bit of a geek, like I am, about products and design, would really appreciate how that's made, because it's actually really a hard thing to do."

The five-piece drop includes a reversible bomber jacket with neon-colored liner that features bonded zippers and 100% nylon fill, a fleece hoodie, a fleece crewneck and a fleece pant. The garments feature straps or cords that enable them to be rolled for easy packing.

Another first for the collection is the NikeLab Air Zoom LWP x Kim Jones running shoe which takes inspiration from the 1995 Nike Air Zoom LWP, the first running shoe to feature Nike Zoom Air technology. The sneaker comes with a pair of shoe bags for easy packing.

The collection is available now on the NikeLab website and in selected NikeLab stores. Prices range from £160-£205.
