A new film documenting the pivotal role in the fashion industry of designer Dame Vivienne Westwood is scheduled for release next Spring.

Film distributor Dogwoof will release Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist, which is directed by Lorna Tucker, in the spring of next year after it is submitted into competition at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival in January.

Westwood is credited with bringing the punk aesthetic into the mainstream and she has continued to make a name for herself with her theatrical and often controversial designs. Lately, however, she has been at the forefront of the ethical fashion movement encouraging consumers to buy fewer, better quality clothes.

At the most recent London Fashion Week in September, Westwood launched the Fashion Switch to Green campaign to encourage fashion industry players to switch to sustainable sources of energy by 2020.

The film is promising to include new and archive footage of Westwood along with interviews with her collaborators and those close to her.
